Evolve Therapy Services Occupational Therapists provide SIL and SDA Eligibility Assessments, addressing all NDIS criteria required for a participants housing plan. Our experienced OTs understand the importance of a comprehensive and accurate assessment for the NDIS.
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is housing designed for people who require specialised and high support needs. Designed, constructed and fitted out with accessible features, they facilitate independence and safety for people and their carers.
SDA housing enables people with a disability the freedom, choice and control surrounding where they live and who they wish to live with. At its core, SDA is about maximising a person’s independence, safety and wellbeing.
The NDIS funds SDA for participants of whom are not able to reside in mainstream housing, or it is recognised that specialised housing, will have a significant improvement on the person’s standard of care, quality of life and opportunities throughout day to day life. The NDIS specifies that participants of whom are eligible for SDA include:
- People with an extreme functional impairment or very high support needs, and
- People of whom meet the specialist disability accomodation needs requirement and the NDIS funding criteria
Completing an SDA Assessment
Evolve OT’s can complete a specific assessment, to determine NDIS participant’s eligibility for Supported Disability Accommodation (SDA). The SDA assessment is provided to the NDIS participant, their health care team and possibly their SDA provider if required, with a goal of informing eligibility surrounding the funding of supports.
We’ll assess a person’s background and their current supports, with an emphasis on looking at living and accommodation factors. We’ll also consider current assistive technology and equipment that contributes to a person’s housing and living circumstances.
Whilst not dissimilar to a Functional Capacity Assessment, an SDA assessment focuses on identifying how SDA can assist a person with all aspects of function and capacity. Using a combination of questions, standardised and non-standardised assessments, we’ll cover aspects like:
- Physical living space requirements
- Engagement in instrumental activities of daily living
- Mobility in the home and community
- Requirements for assistive technology and equipment in the home
SDA assessments are completed clearly and concisely, with a goal of encompassing and addressing all aspects of NDIA requirements.
