Occupational Therapy in the Clinic, School and At Home
Our paediatric Occupational Therapists provide individualised assessments to determine the best powered mobility device for your child. We consider factors such as physical abilities, cognitive ability, motivation and environment to ensure the best possible outcome.
We can prescribe various controllers, including joysticks and switches, to cater to children with different physical abilities and can also modify indoor and outdoor environments to make it easier for your child to use their powered mobility device. Our approach is family-centred and we work closely with you to ensure that the goals for your child are met. We also provide ongoing support to ensure that your child can master their device and achieve the highest level of independence possible.
Research has shown that powered mobility devices enhance development in children with multiple, complex disabilities. Through tool-use learning, children can develop a sense of self, explore cause/effect and become aware of relationships between themselves, others and their environment. Our individualised power mobility assessment and intervention support the growth of environmental awareness and communication skills in children with multiple and complex disabilities.
At Evolve Therapy Services we believe that early access to self-initiated mobility can change the growth and trajectory of developmental milestones for young children with mobility impairments. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help your child achieve greater independence through early powered mobility.
